As you all know by now David Archuleta sang with the other missionaries in the MTC during the second session of conference today. Since I have 3 teenage daughters it's only obvious we'd scour the choir to see if he was singing. I should add that according to my 14 year old, David is my future son-in-law so it's only natural that I'd be looking for family, lol. In her dreams.
Anyway, we searched and searched the choir and then finally came this scene. I remember it distinctly, right there in front of me! No one said anything. I was waiting for the girls to loudly say something. Surely they weren't blind! Finally, since no one else seemed to notice the obvious I said it, "Look all the sister missionaries have their shirts tucked into their skirts except one." Then the camera went to another group of missionaries and we continued our search for David...and to look at shirts. We assumed he was not in the choir.
I learned a couple things today.
1. When we lose our focus we can miss important moments. There are many times throughout our lives that
we look away, even if just momentarily. We get caught up listening to those people in the great and
spacious building, or concentrating on the mist as we're walking on our narrow path and we fail to see
things that can benefit us. We may even miss our entire goal.
2. We can be responsible for distracting others from things that would benefit them as well. Have you ever
sat behind a noisy family during sacrament meeting? It can be so distracting that we miss hearing
something in the talks that may have benefited us, or we may miss feeling the spirit because we're so
busy wishing they'd be quiet.
3. It's not too late to catch those things. None of us are focused 100% of the time. We can still learn the
lessons needed in order to achieve our end goal. They just may come later, they may be through a
different experience or through someone else's eyes. But learn them we can. That's one thing that's
wonderful about the gospel...it's never too late to come back.
Glad we saw this picture of David Archuleta. We are witnessing it through someone else's still picture rather than the live feed that would've been so much more rewarding. I'm having to repent a lot tonight, especially to my daughter that will be marrying David.
